KEV

What do you do when the UNIMAGINABLE happens? The “unimaginable” could be a family tragedy, loss of a job, sudden illness, financial hardship or a broken relationship. As human beings, we automatically set up defense mechanisms to deal with such trauma. Take a moment and think about your “UNIMAGINABLE.” Some of you may be experiencing the effects of it right now. How are you responding? Are you able to move forward or are you experiencing difficulties? Who are you talking to? Do you have someone to talk to? Have you considered drowning your sorrows in drugs, alcohol, violence or sex?
There are many vices you can choose to use for a temporary “high” or a passionate escape, but after the high goes away or the moment of passion ceases…then what? When the storms of life come your way, how do you survive? Do you feel like all is lost or do you rely, in vein, upon an inner strength that can only come from heaven?
My love for God and His love for me has kept me sane during my darkest hours. In addition to the Love of Christ, my support network has empowered me spiritually through prayer and relationship. There is a person who I look to as a mother figure. She spoke to me the day before my father’s funeral. She told me that although I am fractured (by my trauma), I still have inner strength to remain functional. I thought, “Wow! I am fractured, but functional”. I let the thought resonate and then concluded; that is me exactly. I am functional; not by my own strength, but “through Christ who strengthens me.” (Phil. 4:13) My prayer is that the words I will share with you will help you remain functional while being fractured through every trauma in your life.
